Skippers - 1951 Color Print

SKU: VMP1018 $16.50 USD

Historic Overview

This antique color painting (print) features colorful exact size images of Skipper butterflies. The print comes from the book A Field Guide To The Butterflies of North America, East of the Great Plains by Alexander B. Klots. The book was part of The Peterson Field Guide Series originally published in 1951. This is the Sixth Printing dated May, 1964 and published by Houghton Mifflin Company of Boston by their Cambridge, Massachusetts division, The Riverside Press.

This illustration is Plate 36, featuring fourteen (14) Skipper butterflies by Marjorie Statham. We have included the original page describing each of the butterfly images on the back of this mounting. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” brown colored matte to setoff the beauty of the butterflies.

Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “mint” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!

Monk's-Hood - 1904 Chromolithograph
$19.00
This antique print is a floral botanical chromolithograph with great color and depth. The print comes from the book Alpine Flowers by L. Schroter and Professor Dr. C. Schroter published in 1904 by Albert Raustein of Zurich, Switzerland. This ninth edition is officially titled Coloured Vade-Mecum to the Alpine Flora and is in English, French and German. The lithograph was done by Anst. von Werner & Winter in Frankfurt, Germany. This is Tafel (Plate) 6 of the book which measures 4.75” x 7.5” and contains images of 3 Monk’s-hood flowers. They are Common Monk’s-hood, Panicled Monk’s-hood, and Yellow Wolf’s bane. The Monk’s-hoods are dependent on the bumble-bee for fertilization of the flowers. Where there are no bumble-bees there will be no Monk’s-hoods. Attached to the back of the matte is the original book page describing the flowers. The print is professionally matted in an 8” x 10” navy blue matte to setoff the beauty of the plants. Our vintage prints are shipped in a plastic sleeve between cardboard stiffeners to arrive in perfect condition. These are original prints, NOT modern reproductions. Keep in mind, an antique print will never be “perfect” like a new print and there are sometimes tiny occasional spots and/or discoloring or aging. However, we only sell mint or almost mint prints and will not sell anything that we would not be proud to hang on our own walls!!!   WE GUARANTEE ALL PRINTS TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS DESCRIBED!
